Course objectives:

The aim of the course is to acquaint students with following problems: Network protocols, web services, geodata representation, network GIS (map servers together with WWW servers, thin and thick GIS clients, mobile GIS.

Requirements on student
|
To credit the student must prepare and successfully defend a specified project and pass the ongoing and final tests.
The final exam consists of written and oral part. Upon successful completion of the written test in the form of test (must gain of at least 60% points) student goes to the an oral exam.

Content
|
1. Introduction to the topic, basic therms.
2. Network architecture. Basic Internet protocols.
3. Web services with respect to map service defined by Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC).
4. Standardized and proprietary data formats for geodata.
5. Generic architecture of a network geographic information systems (GIS).
6. Architecture for serving geodata (www and map servers).
7. Client side of Internet GIS. Thin, thick and mobile clients.
